The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams : A review (spoilers)

Sara Nisha Adams is a brilliant author and I would describe the reading list as a proper novel. First, because it is a novel about other novels and second it follows the structure and method of most novels. There are no big surprises and everything happens as expected until they do not and this creates a slow burn effect. It reminded me so much of "To Kill a Mockingbird" which was also one of the books on the reading list.  I could see similarities between these two books especially since the two books have a focus on domestic life. The characters in the reading list are believable and I grew very fond of Mukesh and his amusing ways.

While the stories of Aleisha and Mukesh were beautiful and heartbreaking. There were other characters who weren't done as much justice. Aidan, for one, while I understand was not a main character deserved more attention since he was going to be sacrificed at the end to evoke some sort of twist. Zac was another character that we never got to know, and even Aleisha never went on that proper date with him. Why introduce a romantic prospect and not follow through? (Dill in To Kill a Mockingbird). I like that this book introduced other books to me and now I look forward to reading Rebecca and Little Women.  However, this approach of sectioning the plot by novels has some downsides as it didn't do some novels justice. It was almost as though the author started to share the books she loved and got tired of raving about them along the way.  The Reading List  taught me a lesson on the importance of fiction in our world and how just like music, we can connect with others through books.

In summary, the reading list is worth your time and it's sure going to leave you feeling warm at heart as you encounter the joy of community, the strength in sharing, and the power of words.
